BATO BIOPIC SETS THE PACE FOR ACTION FLICKS IN 2019

This early, netizens are all abuzz about the forthcoming bioflick of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.
After all, it was during his term when the government's war on drugs escalated to
unprecedented heights, leading to the long-awaited crackdown on the rampant menace that has long plagued Philippine society for several decades now.

But what lies beneath the faรงade of the crime-busting enigma? Where does he draw the line between being an officer and a gentleman?

To his enemies-hard-nosed criminals, drug lords, erring police offers, etc.-he is the tough relentless and uncompromising iron hand who is willing to uphold the law at all costs. But to his friends and family, he can be the sweet and lovable father figure whose fierce loyalty is aptly complemented by his comic demeanor and good-natured humor, as evinced by some of his candid media interviews.

From the outset, compressing Bato's life story to a mere couple of hours seems like a daunting task. For sure, his heroic exploits as police officer leading to his pivotal role in the controversial anti-drug war will be the movie's full focus.

Given Bato's toughie character, it comes as no surprise how the country's top action icon Robin Padilla has been tapped to play the title role. With his menacing stare and hard-hitting action stunts, Robin fits the role to a T.

Joining the cast are Beauty Gonzalez, Alvin Anson, Archie Alemania, Chanel Morales, Efren Reyes, Gardo Verzosa, Gina Alajar, Jess Mendoza, Joko Diaz, Jun Hidalgo, Kiko Estrada, Kiko Matos, Manuel Chua, Marx Topacio, Menggie Cobarrubias, Mon Confiado, Polo Ravales, and Ricky Davao. The movie is directed by Adolf Alix, Jr.

BATO also marks the debut of ALV Films in the local movie industry.

No stranger in the local movie industry, Vegafria has long been involved in the creative and production processes of many local film outfits, particularly Regal Films, whose top executives Mother Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle are close friends and professional colleagues, as
well as Star Cinema and GMA Films.

"With our recent ventures in the pageant world (Miss World and Mr. World), sports (Manny Pacquiao and URCC), I felt that it was time to go back to more creative pursuits," Vegafria shares.

"The local movie industry is definitely on an upswing, and what better way to keep it alive than by being at the forefront and being directly involved with the art form from concept to finished product. I have always been, and I will always be a movie fan. And with this new venture of ours, I am very sure that this love and passion for the art form will translate to noteworthy
projects," he adds.

Through the years, Vegafria has had the privilege of working closely with some of the prime movers in the movie industry-producers, directors, cinematographers, musical scorers, and of course, the actors and actresses themselves, some of whom have garnered acclaim in international film festivals.

His past experiences as juror at the annual Soho International Film Festival in New York has also opened his eyes to the diverse talent and wealth of opportunities in the global film industry.

He points out, "Of course, we want to help the local film industry first, but it's never too ambitious to aim for global competence. And I believe that with the world-class talent of our local writers, directors, actors in the industry, it's only a matter of time before we become a formidable force in the global movie industry as well."

The electronics category recorded around 300% increase in orders in 2018, becoming one of the top 3 categories on Shopee Philippines as Filipinos shopped for tech products online more. Shopee catered to this trend by onboarding leading electronics brands on Shopee Mall and also launching Shopee Gadget Zone, a dedicated portal featuring Lowest Price Guaranteed deals on tech products from top brands including Xiaomi, Samsung, and Oppo.

Xiaomi emerged as the top electronics brand on Shopee Philippines in 2018. Xiaomi enjoyed a strong debut on Shopee Philippines as the Redmi 5 smartphone sold out in less than a minute during the brand’s first flash sale in April. It was also one of the most sought-after brands for Filipinos, as “Xiaomi” was searched around 900,000 times on Shopee Philippines over 2018. Finally, one of its most awaited smartphones, the Pocophone F1, sold out in 16 minutes on flash sale during Shopee 11.11 Big Christmas Sale.

In addition, televisions were also popular among Shopee users in 2018, as TV brands Ace, Mass, and Avision ranked among the top 5 electronics brands on Shopee Philippines.

Consumers snap up bath and bedroom supplies as The SM Store leads Home & Living

Home & Living was also among the hottest categories in Shopee Philippines in 2018. Bath and bedroom supplies were especially popular among Filipino users; on average, over 2,000 bath and bedroom-related products were sold every day. In line with the global trend of cutting down on plastic use, around 400 stainless steel straws were sold per day on Shopee Philippines in 2018.

The SM Store, the largest department store chain in the Philippines, was the number one brand in the Home & Living category in 2018. Insulated tumblers, oil diffusers, and hard case luggage bags were the hottest products on The SM Store as the brand saw robust performance over the year, ranking among the best-selling brands during Shopee 12.12 Big Christmas Sale.

In line with the growing popularity of online shopping among men, there was also an increase in demand for electrical appliances and power tools as TCL, Bosch, and Lotus ranked among the top 10 Home & Living brands.

Maybelline crowned the queen of Health & Beauty

Health & Beauty rounds off the top categories on Shopee Philippines in 2018 as Shopee users continued to snap up skincare products and cosmetics.

Maybelline emerged as the top beauty brand on Shopee Philippines after a fruitful Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale, where it sold over 50,000 items on 12 December alone. Maybelline’s success was driven by several hit products launched in 2018, such as the Superstay Matte Liquid Lipstick, Hypercurl Mascara, and the Fit Me Liquid Foundation.
Filipino users were also interested in skincare and personal grooming, with P&G, Nivea, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, and Garnier also named among the top Home & Living brands.
