Fun, comfort and style with Giordano denim

Fun, comfort and style with Giordano denim

THE PHILIPPINES, AUGUST 2013 – Fashion trends come and go, but only one thing remains constant: denim.

Since it was invented in 1853, the sturdy fabric has been molded into different fits and styles – bellbottom, boot cut, bleached, washed, colored. And unique to the denim is how it flatters every person who wears it, from workers to rock stars, cowboys to celebrities; it’s the ultimate staple apparel. True to its long and rich history, the denim jean is designed to last forever.

In celebration of this classic material, Giordano Philippines launches “Denim Now. Denim Forever”. Can be worn by anybody in any season for almost any occasion, the raw and colored denim offered in the collection is available in different fits and styles.

“Denim Now. Denim Forever” underlines the material’s sturdy yet comfortable characteristic. “Compared with last year’s denim collection, this year’s pieces are different in terms of fabrication, thread and pocket design. The styles now have a higher spandex content, thus allowing more movement for the wearer,” said Ella Santos, Giordano Philippines Denim Category Buyer.

In this collection, Giordano highlights the classic beauty of raw denim. “The dye is expected to fade gradually with continuous washing. This is one of raw denim’s unique characteristics and it must not be considered as an imperfection,” Santos said.

Giordano raw denim jeans come in two kinds of fits and styles: tight tapered and slim tapered for men, slim tapered and skinny straight for women. These pieces are also designed to adjust to the wearer’s shape and size, acquiring a more personal fit.

Colored denim jeans are the ultimate expressions of fun, comfort and style. Similar to Giordano’s legging jeans, the spandex content in these pieces allows wearers to move freely and comfortably. The jeans are available in eight different colors – classic black, washed red, oxblood, mustard, blue turquoise, navy blue, dusty white and dark denim – in skinny tapered for women and tight tapered for men.

Pieces from the Giordano’s “Denim Now. Denim Forever” are available in all Giordano stores nationwide at an affordable price of PhP999, starting August 23 until mid-September.

CATCH THE GOLDEN-SNITCH-MAN IN “THE INTERNSHIP”

The world over have seen the airfield battle to capture the golden snitch in one of the most phenomenal (recently) wrapped-up teen-wizard movie “Harry Potter.”  In another universe called Google campus where great thinkers converge to create something new being  featured in the movie “The Internship,” they have found a way to reinvent the game of quidditch on ground.
Starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, “The Internship” finds Nick (Owen Wilson) and his partner Billy (Vince Vaughn), as two newly unemployed watch salesman trying to find employment with a limited skill-set in a world that appears to have passed them by.
“As salesmen they are incredibly good at what they do,” says director Shawn Levy, “but the whole profession of selling in person, in an age where most people are increasingly buying their goods on the Internet, is on the wane. So they are downsized, suddenly unemployed, and Vince's character comes up with this idea of applying for an internship at Google, a company that represents the vanguard of the new economy. It's a long shot, but this possibility of self-reinvention is exciting to Billy and Nick and they take their shot.”
It required a certain amount of Googliness on the part of Levy and production designer Tom Meyer to reimagine a world where innovation intersects with fun and purpose. “We scouted Google a number of times.  It's quirky, idyllic, strange, and very specific,” says Levy.  “But, it was clear to us that there's no way the production could shoot at Google for an entire month and a half, because they're an ongoing business.  So we needed to find a way to replicate Google in Atlanta, which I initially thought would be impossible.”
But infrastructure alone does not a Google campus make. “When you go to Google, the most important thing that you take away from it is its non-traditional aspect and out of the box thinking,” says Meyer.  “Google reps said to me when I was trying to recreate it, ‘Do it, but keep the spirit of what Google is about.’”
“For each one of the sets we did a photo-real illustration, or a model, or both, then sent it off to Google, and had conversations back and forth,” adds Meyer.  “I tried to capture that feeling that you take away when you’re an employee or visitor there.  There’s a huge sense of playfulness.  And the idea of a healthy body and mind is central to Google.”
“This isn’t Owen and Vince being interns at Corporate Office Number 5.  This is Google; this is Oz,” adds Meyer.  “So, the film starts off in the first act at a normal, almost retro-office environment, which we call Kansas [as in the “Wizard of Oz” setting], our black and white atmosphere.  And then, when you go to Google, you hit those primary colors, the clean glass, white walls, and wacky, crazy objects, which provided a real sense of a pop and wonder.’”
Ultimately, “The Internship’s  Googliness is that it’s not just about life at Google.  “It's about every one of us who'd like to believe that another shot is possible, that another kind of chapter in the story of you is possible,” says Levy.  “I don't know anyone who doesn't relate to that; whether you're 16, 22, or 40, we all want to believe that we can change our lives – that it’s never too late.  And so, the movie is really about possibility.”
In other words, we must dare to search.  Billy and Nick remind us that the best is yet to come, and that old dogs are capable of learning new tricks.  With guts, grit and Googliness, everyone has a chance.  So, dream big, dream again, dream some more.  Because the world loves second acts.
“The Internship” opens August 14 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

AVATAR UNIVERSE EXPANDS TO THREE SEQUELS

James Cameron Hires Writers to Collaborate with Him on the Films

Marking a significant expansion of his already ambitious plans for the much-anticipated AVATAR sequels, Academy Award®-winning filmmaker James Cameron announced that the films have grown in number from two to three.
Additionally, to help bring his growing AVATAR universe to life and to expedite the process, Cameron has hired screenwriters Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages, Salinger) to collaborate with him on the screenplays for the three films.
The three pictures will be filmed simultaneously with production beginning next year.  The release of the first sequel will be in December 2016, with the second to follow in December 2017, and the third a year later. AVATAR 2, 3, and 4 will be produced by Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment banner. Like the original film, Lightstorm will work with Joe Letteri and his team at WETA Digital to realize the worlds of the sequels.
Commented Cameron:  “Building upon the world we created with AVATAR has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience.  In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that AVATAR’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen. And to help me continue to expand this universe, I’m pleased to bring aboard Amanda, Rick, Shane and Josh -- all writers I’ve long admired - to join me in completing the films screenplays.”
Commented 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO, Jim Gianopulos: “We at the studio have no higher priority, and can feel no greater joy, than enabling Jim to continue and expand his vision of the world of AVATAR. The growing breadth and scale of Jim Cameron’s plans for his magnificent fantasy worlds continue to amaze us all.”
AVATAR is the highest grossing film of all time, and is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. The film won Golden Globe® awards for Best Motion Picture and Best Director; and was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won Oscars for art direction, visual effects and cinematography.

AVATAR was written by Cameron from an idea he nurtured for over a decade, while working on the technology necessary to realize its wholly imagined world. Working with WETA Digital, Cameron created a fully immersive 3D cinematic experience of a new kind, where revolutionary technology that was invented to make the film disappeared into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.

The three AVATAR sequels will mark Cameron’s latest collaborations with 20th Century Fox, a relationship that spans nearly 30 years and marks one of the most successful filmmaker-studio alliances in motion picture history. Cameron and Fox first joined forces in 1985 for Aliens, which became a sci-fi classic. Next came The Abyss, which revolutionized visual effects technology; then came the blockbuster, True Lies. In 1996, Fox greenlighted Cameron’s Titanic, which became the most successful film in history, and won a record-breaking eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

LOGAN LERMAN MEETS HALF-BROTHER TYSON IN “PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS”

Logan Lerman reprises the titular role as the teen demigod son of Poseidon prophesied to save the world of the gods’ children sired with humans in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
”
Produced by Chris Columbus whose successful string of blockbusters includes the “Harry Potter” films, “Percy Jackson: Lightning Thief,”  “Fantastic Four,” “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Surfer,” “Night at the Museum” and “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” the latest adventure of Percy Jackson adapted from Rick Riordan’s 2nd book from the best selling series “Percy Jackson and The Olympians” finds Percy at waters’ ends dealing with shocking family revelations, saving his best friend Grover from a cyclops and battling fellow demigods to ultimately stop the evil Kronos from wreaking havoc to their world.
In “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” the Oracle further complicates Percy’s sense of self and duty, says Lerman, when it tells him he “is either going to destroy Olympus or save it.  He’s not sure if he can rise to the occasion.”   Percy has a lot at stake, according to Freudenthal.  “He’s trying to save Camp Half-Blood and prove himself as a hero.  He’s grown distant from his father, who is not really responding to his requests for help.  Percy embarks upon his ‘odyssey’ for two reasons: to save his home, and to ascertain if he is indeed a hero.”
On his journey to battle demigod Luke (played by Jake Abel) and retrieve the Golden Fleece, Percy discovers he has a half-brother, Tyson (Douglas Smith), who is a Cyclops.  “Tyson is a sweet, teenage Cyclops,” says director Thor Freudenthal.  “Cyclopes are viewed as monsters, but everything about Tyson is the opposite of that.”
“Tyson is a warrior, of sorts,” says Douglas Smith, who plays the one-eyed teen.  “He’s a really soulful, salt of the earth Cyclops.  Tyson is one of those people who seem overly simple but he’s actually got a deep wisdom.  It comes in handy in the quest because he’s got a variety of skills that only Cyclopes have.  He’s a good guy, and identifies more with the Half-Bloods than with the other Cyclopes, who like to eat demigods.  Tyson looks like a villain, but he has a heart of gold and that can be very confusing when people meet him.  And it’s confusing for him, too.”
Like Percy, Tyson is a son of Poseidon, but while Percy’s mother is human, Tyson’s mother was a sea nymph.  Smith describes the sibling relationship: “Percy and Tyson are half-brothers, but Tyson doesn’t like to harp on that.  Percy doesn’t expect to have a brother show up at camp, he doesn’t expect to bring him along on the journey, and he does not expect to be won over by Tyson’s optimism and point of view, which is fresh and filled with wonder.  Ultimately, Percy realizes that Poseidon is looking out for him, because he sent Tyson to Percy.”

Initially, the filmmakers planned to give Smith a prosthetic eye, but they decided to create the eye mostly through visual effects.  The prosthetic shrank in size from a full facemask to a small forehead application that created the effect of a single brow, which Smith only had to sport when Tyson wears sunglasses.  And, as in the book, an application of magical mist creates the illusion of Tyson having two eyes; for those scenes, Smith wears only his own visage.

Douglas Smith is best known for his starring role as Ben Henrickson on HBO’s critically acclaimed series “Big Love,” starring Bill Paxton and Jeanne Tripplehorn. He also starred in the indie film “Remember the Daze,” opposite Amber Heard, Leighton Meester and Lyndsy Fonseca, He recently starred in the independent “The Boy Who Smells Like Fish,” opposite Zoë Kravitz and was recently seen in Brandon Cronenberg’s “Antiviral.”
“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” (3D and 2D) opens August 7 in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

PLANET GRAPES

PLANET GRAPES – Wine Without The Drama at McKinley Hill

Planet Grapes, a wine store/wine bar, marks its formal opening at the G/F Bldg. 3 of Tuscany at McKinley Hill, Upper McKinley Road, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on July 30. Planet Grapes is the newest place for people who want to discover and drink wine without the anxiety or drama. At Planet Grapes, customers can discover and learn about wine one grape at a time. And with two in-store Enomatic wine dispensers, guests can try wine by the glass for up to sixteen different wines from the best wine regions in the world.
Planet Grapes offers an easygoing and wine-friendly ambiance where the uninitiated (and uninhibited!) can begin their journey to discover the world of wines. The state-of-the-art Italian enomatic machines allow customers to try different wines by the glass, in three different glass sizes: sip, half-glass, and full glass. Customers may also purchase wines by the bottle. The selections in the store are organized by grape varietals and grouped into red and white wine. You will find different representations or expressions of each grape varietal from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, North America, and South America. Each grape varietal has a distinct character, taste, aroma, body and mouth-feel. For white wine lovers, there’s Sauvignon Blanc, a light white wine with a somewhat `grassy’ flavor; Chardonnay, an elegantly crisp dry white varietal wine; Riesling, an off-dry white wine; and Gewurztraminer, a somewhat sweet and very aromatic white wine. For red wine lovers, the options are endless from the light and easy Pinot Noir, the ever-popular Merlot, the more sophisticated Cabernet Sauvignon, to the full-bodied Syrah or Shiraz.
At Planet Grapes, learning about wine is easy and fun. Attentive and well-trained Planet Grapes staff can provide ideal wine recommendations. Whether you are a wine newbie or a seasoned wine drinker who wants to try certain wines to pair with food, start a wine collection, or someone looking for a special gift, you can rely on the Planet Grapes staff to discuss each wine's characteristics, story, and perfect food pairings.
The inviting wine bar has chic interiors with a modern touch, highlighted by the seamless interplay of wood and metal that adds up to its relaxed ambience. The atmosphere is enticing for customers who want to while away the hours, without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated by all the ceremony and rules (drama) that usually accompany wine drinking. The walls are adorned with neatly displayed wine bottles and subdued LED-lighting, with soft background music throughout the store, to offer an intimate and cozy feel perfect for an evening of relaxation and quiet conversation with friends. Alfresco seating is available and very popular for people who just want to watch the world go by. Aside from the impressive selection of wine, Planet Grapes also offers tasty small bites on its menu to pair with wine, including the must-try Filipino classic balut to go with any of the white wines.
Planet Grapes is the latest brand created by the entrepreneur partners Romy Sia and Christian Tan. Sia’s interest in wine was sparked by his travels abroad. He got hooked on wine after reading Benjamin Wallace’s book, the New York Times bestseller, “The Billionaire’s Vinegar”. Since he aims to make wine enjoyment accessible and affordable to an increasingly affluent and savvy Filipino market, Sia thinks removing people’s anxiety towards wine is the best way to make wine a part of people’s lives. Planet Grapes, with its tagline of wine without the drama, is the solution. Three more Planet Grapes stores are planned to open soon and they will be at Century City Mall in Makati, Ayala Center Cebu, and River Park at Festival Mall Alabang.
